Hey everyone! April here, and boy, do I have a fun project for you today!!!!!!
Since I took so many pictures of the project process, I decided to take the ones that truly represented the process and collaged them together. So I'll touch on the process and match them up with the pictures going L-R.
Supplies Used:
Maya Road canvas pennant (purchased from the Thoughts 2 Paper store)
Gesso
Glimmer Mist, Spray Paint, acrylic paint & homemade glimmer mist (instructions listed below)
Stencils
Ephemera (paper, fabric, vintages trinkets, flowers, whatever you have readily available)
Sewing machine
1. Take the pennant apart off the rings and coat each side with gesso and let them dry completely. If you are not familiar with gesso, it is basically a primer for any type of porous fabric, paper, etc. It prevents bleed through and creates an even work surface. It comes in several colors....white, black, grey, ivory, clear, etc.2. Now, be advised that the next part does NOT have to be perfect, clean or symmetrical. Take any stencil that you have (as you can see, my stash has store bought, magazine cut outs, handmade, old game board pieces, sequins waste, masks, etc) and lay it down on your pennant. 3. Take your spray ink and spray randomly. Use several colors and several stencils. Overlap, layer, do whatever your heart desires. I used 2-3 different stencils and colors per page, but you can do whatever you want.
4. From this point on, you decide on what you want to do. This project really has no clear cut steps!!! What I did was just gathered items that were within arms reach. Seriously, I didn't get off my chair once for the rest of this project. I used scrap paper, book pages, vintage pictures, cut up shapes from a previous project, fabric, tickets, flowers, trim, ribbon......the possibilities are endless. Use glue, adhesive, sewing machine or hand stitching and lay your ephemera/embellishments down as you desire. I did make sure that I had several pages that had some clear space so that I could journal a bit.
5. Now you can either choose to journal some thoughts, sayings, quotes, etc. onto your pages, or put it back together on the binder rings and call it good.
And this was all there was to making this shabby canvas book.
RECIPE FOR HOME MADE GLIMMER MIST:
Ingredients:
-Ranger Perfect Pearls or Pearl Ex-
Ranger Mini Misters or small spray bottles (can be found in the travel sections of major department stores)
Liquid Inks--acrylic inks, re-inkers (CTMH, Stampin' Up, etc)
Water
1. Fill a mini mister or spray bottle with some water. Don't fill it all the way.....1/2 or 1/3 of the way is plenty.
2. Add a few drops of liquid ink. This adds a intensity to the spray color. The more you add, the more intense of a color.
3. Add a 1 or 2 tiny scoops of Perfect Pearls/Pearl Ex. You do not need a lot...the perfect pearls mostly add the shimmer, so a little goes a long way. I get mine out of the pot with a popsicle stick.
4. Put the cap back on your bottle and shake, shake, shake! You'll want to make sure it's shaken up well!
5. Spray and have fun! Try mixing different ink colors with different Pearl colors, see what combo's you come up with!!!
*If you let your bottles of mix sit for a while and you have used PEARL EX, remember to shake them up well again before use. The Pearl Ex has a tendency to settle to the bottom of the bottle. :)
I really hope you enjoyed this mini tutorial. We would love to see what you create using the Maya Road canvases!!!
